Things to keep in mind while writing a blog post

Here are some basic principles of writing a quality blog post that might be worth keeping in mind.

1.  Ask yourself

After google panda update, it is important that your content must be fresh, informative and most importantly unique that should attract site visitors and make them want to read. Else, google will mark your site in low quality list of search phenomenon.

Ask yourself a few questions before start writing a blog post:

  • Does this article provide a complete description of the topic?
  • Does this article contain interesting information that is beyond obvious?
  • Does this article offer true value to readers or help them to solve their problems?

3.  Look around at other blogs in your niche

To write, you have to research and read a lot to gather an insight. Take a look around at other blogs in your niche, it helps you to stay up-to-date on what’s going on in your niche; just don’t copy another’s work!

Also try to understand what makes them unique? how they craft their blog post? how does their content appeal to people so much? This way you can able to deliver your content easily!

4.  Hook your readers right from the start

Length of the blog post depends on what you’re writing. It’s not about size. It’s about how it is relayed to your readers.

People will read a lengthy article only if it’s well written to keep them interested. If you fail to hook them in your opening paragraph, it doesn’t matter how many words you are written from the start. Write compelling content that will captivate your readers. Start with something that make sense and will make the reader go.

5.  Set yourself a time limit

If you find yourself exhausted after writing for hours, it’s a good choice to walk away from your work and take a break for a while.

Suppose if i leave the article for at least 10 minutes, then come back to it. This short interval of time will refresh my mind that enables to view things with fresh. That way i readily catch more mistakes. The more time you give the more quality of article will be produced.

6.  Write atleast 10 – 15 articles per month

Write fresh content consistently. Don’t let laziness creep into your projects. Try to write atleast 10 to 15 articles per month, What matters is providing quality content in a clear and concise manner that will keep your readers to return in future.

I do not believe in writing 10 articles/day is kind of bogus because producing high quality content is going to require a significant amount of time.

7.  Write an eye-catchy post title

To grab the visitor’s attention and compel them to click your blog post in 2 seconds, your post title should be eye-catching. Make sure that the title of your post contains the focus keyword, so it will be easy for your readers and search engines to recognize what your post is about.

I’d highly recommend checking out Copyblogger.com has some interesting epic posts about picking the attention grabbing post titles.

Keep your post title fewer than 70 characters, because title display in search engines is limited to 70 characters.

8.  Make it better

To draw the reader’s attention to the area, you have to include these stuffs.

  • Use suitable images in an article as images speaks louder than words. Be sure that the image isn’t copyrighted.
  • Highlight the words with bold, Italics & underline that your blog post want to stand.
  • A Bullet point is your best friend. People hate text-heavy, eye-straining articles
  • Use internal link: Place a link to related post within your article is a good SEO process.

This will make your article more pleasing to the eye.

9.  No excuse for spelling mistakes

Read your article twice for spelling and grammar mistakes before you hit publish. No matter how interesting your content are, but Readers will not feel good reading your blog post with spelling mistakes & poor grammar. This will reduce your blog credibility.

Use spell checker tools “After the deadline” and “Grammarly.com” to check  spelling and grammar errors.

10.  Submit your work

Your post will not have chance of going viral unless it speaks to social media. Share your article to social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Linkedin anywhere else you can. Also submit to Social Bookmarking Sites Digg Digg, Reddit, stumble upon, and blog directories to get more traffic.

Things to avoid while writing a blog post

1.  Don’t keyword stuff

Keyword stuffing is something Google clearly recommends you avoid. It is nothing but repeating same keyword over and over again in a piece of content. This leads to over optimization. It’s like stuffing too much cheese on a pizza, it gets salty and mushy. It is recommended to keep your keyword density between 2 – 4% range and you’ll be fine.

To be honest, there is no magic number for keyword density. Don’t pay too much attention to keywords while writing, because you’re probably not covering the topic that well. Just write for humans not for search engine. Google will recognize it and certainly won’t hurt your post if it written naturally.

I use SEO Yoast plugin that monitors the density of keyword of article and it ultimately assist in optimizing blog post properly.

2.  Don’t write lengthy paragraph

Break your content into small, easy to read at a glance with plenty of white space serves as a kind of visual emphasis. Your article is not a book and the blogger can be happy if reader spends atleast 20 seconds with his article.

Keep your paragraph no more than 3 to 4 lines long, else no one will read it. There are plenty of studies proving that 95% of people on internet absolutely don’t read lengthy contents.

3.  Don’t steal others content

Using other people’s content with proper citations is fine, but if you’re copying entire chunks of content, you’re not going to fare well. Certainly it’s not good for your blog’s credibility as well as you could get penalized by Google’s algorithm. Nowadays search engines are pretty smart enough to judge duplicate content.

4.  Don’t force yourself to write faster

The best writing is done with patience and time. Although many people would like to concentrate on writing article fast as possible and get paid. But they have lost the true goal at hand, which is to create quality content that not only Google will love but the readers as well.

If you want to write article faster, make a plan and give yourself a deadline. Otherwise don’t bother to write article faster just for money sake. If you write boring content who is going to care? Nobody. You will fail to get nowhere.

Remember, writing 500 words boring content in just an hour is still useless.

5.  Don’t write off topic

Bloggers are always advised to stay within their niche and stick to it, so that you can able to write quality blog posts frequently. If you run away from the topic, your page rank will probably go down in the long run. This will disappoint your readers those who subscribe your blog. If you know what i mean 😉

final word

Everyone has its own perspective. Good perspective is on sharing from your heart. If you have something to write, feel free to write it. And it’s okay if your opinion differs from others. If you are worried about writing, you will never get anything done. keep writing, keep trying to get your work published. If you keep doing that, the outcome will take care of itself. Do the best you can, and learn from your mistakes so that you can write your next article much better.

Never never ever give up!

Happy Blogging 😀
